San Pedro, CA

Virgil Flowers has been immersed in the mortgage and lending industry since 2000, building on an even earlier foundation in housing that continues to shape his approach today. Before entering the mortgage world, he spent several years working in high‑end, multi‑unit apartment communities, guiding renters through affordability, lease terms and long‑term housing choices. That early hands‑on experience helped him understand how people think about stability, opportunity and the dream of homeownership.

Virgil’s commitment to serving aspiring homeowners deepened during his nearly five‑year tenure with The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA), a nationally recognized, community‑focused organization dedicated to expanding access to affordable homeownership. Working with families who often felt overlooked or left out of traditional pathways, he found not just a role but a calling, supporting communities that had long been underserved and helping individuals believe in the possibility of owning a home. His time at NACA strengthened his ability to simplify complex guidelines, build trust and advocate for clients who needed a champion in their corner.

Now based in the Long Beach area, where he has lived since early 2025, Virgil remains closely attuned to the realities of the Southern California housing market. He has become a trusted resource for first‑time buyers, especially those navigating down‑payment assistance and other affordability programs, in addition to traditional/nontraditional loan programs. With a background spanning property management, nonprofit counseling, and traditional lending, he understands that many renters underestimate their ability to buy a home, not because they’re unqualified, but because they’re under‑informed.

At Columbia Bank, Virgil sees his role as empowering future homeowners through clarity and communication. He takes the time to explain options thoroughly, replace uncertainty with practical guidance and help clients move forward at a pace that feels right for them.

Outside of work, Virgil stays active in his community through Meetup‑based volunteer efforts across Los Angeles County and by supporting local homeownership initiatives. Originally from Belize, he frequently travels back to reconnect with family and culture, while also exploring new cities and neighborhoods closer to home. Whether he’s discovering a new Caribbean or soul food restaurant or helping a renter take their first step toward ownership, Virgil brings curiosity, clarity and a genuine commitment to helping people progress.
